Research Interests:
Oxide thin films have received much attention and triggered comprehensive investigation in both theoretical and technological aspects due to two important and independent issues of room-temperature ferromagnetism (RT-FM) and resistive switching (RS) properties. The origin of magnetic moments and their coupling and the cause of switching between high/low resistance states are attracted for academic research; On the other hand, oxide thin films are key materials for RRAM and also the future spintronic devices. In recent years, researchers have noticed that both the RT-FM and RS properties of oxide thin films would be closely related with intrinsic defects. Whether all these properties and findings could be explained using a common physical mechanism is worth further investigation.
We are investigating comprehensively the correlation and dependence among the RT-FM、RS and intrinsic defects, finding the possibility of electric control of magnetism. We will prepare a series of oxide-based RRAM units, including films of ZnO, CuxO and Ta2O5、ZnO films doped with Co, Ni, Cu、CuxO films doped with Co, Ni、bilayer films of CuxO/ZnO, TiO2/ZnO, Ta2O5/ZnO, Co:ZnO/BFO, Ni:ZnO/BFO, Co:CuxO/BFO, and Ni:CuxO/ BFO、spin memristive MTJ: Co:ZnO, Co:Ta2O5, and Co:HfO2. The research topics focus on the correlation of the RT-FM and RS properties in these undoped and magnetic-element-doped oxide thin films and bilayer films, where the impact of using a ferromagnetic metal electrode in these RRAM devices will also be examined. Execution and achievement of the research will be of benefit to a better understanding of the RT-FM and RS in oxide thin films and to finding the possibility of electric control of magnetism for future device applications.
